Why
Architectural Woodworks?
Our contracts often include all
the cabinetry and some of the furniture for a custom home. Our
experience includes contemporary high style, craftsmen bungalows, and
California Mission or Spanish architecture.
Corporate offices, city halls and churches, modern and
historical, have asked us to sensitively update their facilities. We
also specialize in home entertainment centers and have been commissioned
by major Hollywood producers and directors for their own home theaters.
Many people come to us because of our
ability to create an exquisite design for homes indigenous to
California. Among designers and architects, we are also known for our
handmade cabinet doors. We have developed unique and beautifully styled
cabinet door samples in a variety of finishes and textures to stimulate
visual imagination. Many have hand planed surfaces. Besides our web
site’s online portfolio, we have an even larger picture portfolio to
review in person. Repeat
customers and "word of mouth" is our most effective
advertising. References will be supplied upon request.
Commissioning
Us
The
best way to commission Architectural Woodworks is by submitting complete
plans of your project from your architect, designer or you. Do as much
of your research as possible. A visit with us may be part of that
exploration. Though the plans need not include every detail, the more
information we have about the final product, the more accurately we can
bid. That said, there are
instances where a decent sketch will be enough information.
From
Design to Completion
After our initial discussions and plan
review a “scope of work and estimate” is provided to the client.
Once the estimate is accepted we can offer ideas for the details of the
project to enhance its functionality or beauty. We review material and
hardware choices with examples. If special finishes are needed, we work
with reputable associates for any type of finish-stain, antique glazes,
faux or even trompe l'oeil. We can turn wood and carve. We have
resources for every type of period face hardware or glass.
We then visit the job site and
take accurate measurements to use for producing working documents. Upon
completion of the first draft we sit down with our clients and review
all the details. Customer input is most important to the final design.
For larger cabinetry projects, we prepare and finish a complete section
of cabinet front, including a door and drawer face for customer
approval.
Once final drawings are approved
the shop construction process is initiated. Finishing may take place
before or after the installation. The same crew that builds the project
will install it in coordination with other involved tradesmen.
Our work is of the highest
quality and we expect the client to accept no less from us. We guarantee
our materials and workmanship apart from normal wear or abnormal abuse.
